VESSEL OPERATOR

SCOPE:

The Vessel Operator is part of a specialized team within Cable Services that deals with the commercial ship management of our customers. You are the link between the wishes and requirements of the customer and the ship. It is your responsibility to manage customer expectations while steering the ship from loading to discharge port. You monitor the progress of the ships and based on that progress you plan ahead.

The projects consist of activities in which we facilitate sea transport for our customers in the fiber optic communication cable business.

Responsibilities and tasks:

• Monitoring ship movements ranging from loading, unloading, sea passage, anchoring, standby at the quay and more
• Communication link between customers and ships

Daily affairs:

• Maintain daily progress reports
• Preparing loading and unloading ports, appointing and contacting agents
• Maintaining and ordering bunkers
• Contact with the customer:
• Checking loading documents after loading
• Sorting out variation orders in case of changing port and travel planning
• Check that the project continues to progress according to plan and within budget, you make timely adjustments and report to the Project manager if it threatens to run outside budget
• Evaluation and administration during the life of the project.

Knowledge and skills:

• MBO / HBO working and thinking level with a relevant nautical background
• You have a flexible attitude and together with the team you ensure that there is always a point of contact 24/7
• You can work well together and function in a team
• You can work independently and are comfortable with taking responsibility
• Care and accuracy in administration and reporting
• You are proficient in the written and spoken English language
• You are willing to learn theory, including maritime legislation, cargo documentation, charter parties
