Job Description

Job location: Abu Dhabi

Sr. Corrosion & RBI Engineer Primary Purpose Provide specialized expertise, risk-based inspection, and engineering support for the corrosion engineering activities in Company’s downstream facilities ensuring effective implementation of anti- corrosion programs for all metallic assets, e.g., structures, pipelines, and equipment across the downstream network and facilities to maintain highest level of integrity, reliability and safety and environmental compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and implement corrosion monitoring, prevention, and management programs to ensure efficient and cost-effective corrosion engineering and management services for all onshore structures, pipelines, equipment, valves, and piping of the entire downstream network.
  • Provide technical advice on repair and replacement specifications for various engineering and plant modification projects and recommend on materials selection based on the field observation, metallurgical and corrosion management principles.
  • Carry out performance evaluation of coating and painting conditions and installed cathodic protection (CP) for above and underground equipment and pipelines and recommend best options for paint and coating systems to ensure optimum protection.
  • Monitor corrosion rate of critical equipment, structures, pipelines, and piping systems of the entire network.
  • Oversee and assess results from regular CIPS and DCVG surveys and make recommendations for adjustment to CP outputs in line with survey findings.
  • Carry out fitness for service evaluation for existing metallurgy in Company’s downstream operations’ equipment and pipelines through performing life cycle cost analysis on metallurgy of process equipment and piping systems and recommending the best options on the materials to be used and carry out defect assessment analysis for the pipeline.
  • Manage overall RBI program including adjustments of inspection frequencies, types of inspections and assets to be inspected based on risk of failure.
  • Focal point for managing and accessing data in Credo software.
  • Assess results from annual UT gauging surveys and assess the piping condition and determine UT frequency based of the results.
  • Develop and implement long term inspection strategy for each pipeline including repair methods.
  • Focal point for managing and accessing data in PIMS software including ROAIMS.
  • Identify and implement corrosion mitigation ideas to improve operational performance, increase facilities integrity and reduce maintenance cost.
  • Contribute to preparing annual integrity report for the entire pipeline network including the
  • condition of all pipeline and piping system.
  • Prepare comprehensive monthly corrosion and CP monitoring report for integration in monthly asset integrity report through monitoring corrosion probe and projected corrosion rates for process equipment and piping systems based on the process conditions.
  • Participate in preparation of capital and operating budgets for inspection unit through monitoring and reconciling capital and operating expenditure against planned budget for corrosion management activities and address any variances to ensure effective cost control.
  • Undertake comprehensive in-house or third-party investigations of failures and risk assessments of Company’s assets due to corrosion or other degradation, and issue report thereof with consolidated recommendations to mitigate any corrosion or other degradation may occurs.
  • Perform other similar or related duties as required or assigned by the Senior Manager Mechanical Integrity & Inspection.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials and Corrosion, or Metallurgical Engineering
  • API 580 certification is preferred.
  • NACE Level 3 is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience in the Oil and Gas industry.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong experience in corrosion management and/or integrity management discipline.
  • Excellent technical knowledge in corrosion engineering. 
  • Interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Strong knowledge in Credo8 software
  • Strong knowledge in PIMS including ROAIMS.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic is an added advantage.
  • IT/PC literate.
