EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead Engineer – Electrical (offshore EPC) 

Reports to : Sr. Manager Topsides (EPC)

JOB OBJECTIVES (SUMMARY OF OVERALL JOB PURPOSE)

Responsible for organization and overall operations of the Electrical in the Engineering department of EPC division within Safety, Quality, on Schedule and budgetary target set to support achieving overall department goals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Policies, Processes & Procedures:

• Enhance, implement approved departmental policies, processes, procedures and provide instructions to subordinates and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner

• Ensure employees are aware and follow the information Security Rules and data security measures in order to protect the company information / intellectual properties

Day- to-day operations:

• • Assume sole responsibility for assigned electrical engineering work scopes

• Carry out electrical discipline work within a project team, supporting the project team for field development of oil and gas production facilities

• Plan, budget, organize and control a segment of the electrical engineering deliverables for the project

• Prepare electrical deliverables for all project phases the oil and gas industry

• Ensure that all work is completed without compromise to quality and is delivered according to the project schedule

• Provide direction and guidance on all electrical engineering technical queries raised by either internal or external parties

• Liaise with the Client’s Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required to ensure a consistent approach to project completion

• Promote safe behavior at all times

• Provide sound technical advice and solutions to a diversity of technical problems within the discipline

• Co-ordinate with other disciplines during all stages of design development, construction, pre- commissioning, and start-up

• Assist in the coordination of all activities related to electrical engineering design

• Identify any areas of concern with respect to progress and/or quality and recommend corrective actions as required

Operations Management:

• Plan and maintain manpower and other resources required for smooth operation of the Electrical discipline.

• Estimate man-hours and materials for delegated aspects of work.

• Conduct Engineering audits, risk assessment and training as required.

• Prepare and reviewing engineering studies, design drawings and documents.

Direction of subordinates:

• Plan, organize and supervise the activities assigned to Electrical discipline subordinates to ensure that all work within a specific area of electrical engineering activity is carried out in accordance with department and project work instructions, procedures, process manual and project specific requirements, an efficient and procedurally compliant manner.

Continuous Improvement:

• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international best practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement. Dedicate in knowledge transfer session within and outside discipline.

Reporting:

• Prepare departmental reports on time and accurately to meet company and department requirements, policies and standards. Prepare weekly reports on discipline update to DDW internal and reporting as per project demand

Safety, Quality & Environment:

• Comply with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls to ensure a healthy and safe work environment. Consistently demonstrate “Safety Culture” acts and behaviour without complacency.

Related Assignments:

• Perform other related duties or assignments as directed on order to contribute to the continuous

operations of the department. Support EPC engineering department and Electrical Discipline initiatives.

Technical competencies:

• Fully trained and knowledgeable with relevant Electrical Safety and Occupational Health & Safety standards.

• Broad technical knowledge of engineering designing of Electrical Power systems & Controls in basic, detail and production stages for systems for marine and offshore platforms etc.

• Broad technical knowledge of installation and commissioning of Electrical Power systems

• Strong background with resolution of technical issues during projects planning and EPC execution phases.

• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.

• Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize and successfully execute tasks in accordance with business objectives.

• Project management skills.

CHALLENGES (MAJOR CHALLENGES OF THE ROLE – NOT MORE THAN 5) – TO BE VALIDATED

• Managing projects with multi-skill requirement with the available limited resources as per project schedule

• Varied project requirement over different segments of offshore oil & gas (FPSO and fixed facilities) / renewables / ship building / new building projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Essential 

Education • Bachelor/Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 

Training

• Proficient with software such as ETAP, AGi32 etc. ERP, EDMS, MS Office

Experience

• Minimum of 15 years relevant experience in shipyard, offshore / Oil & Gas industry in design office or EPC.

• Minimum of 6 years proven capability in an engineering design company

• Experience in offshore topsides facilities including FPSO, HVAC/ HVDC and Process platforms for major projects

• Experience with performing Electrical as per IEC/IEEE standards, a very good knowledge and understanding of ABC, DNV_GL, LR, BV classification rule requirements and IMO, SOLAS regulations

• Project management experience in high value projects.

• Experience in offshore HVDC & HVAC systems

• Experience working with multi- national and multi-cultural project teams is strongly preferred

• Based on project assignment may be required to work at partners /Subcontractor /vendor locations outside of Dubai, UAE

• Identify any areas of concern with respect to progress and/or quality and recommend corrective actions as required
