Job Title: Harvest and Post-Harvest Operation Specialist

Location: Rwanda

Job Description:

We are looking for a skilled Harvest and Post-Harvest Operation Specialist to join our team in Rwanda.. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the smooth execution of all phases of harvest and post-harvest activities for oleaginous seeds. Your primary responsibility will be to guarantee the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and timely seed supplies to our facility. Additionally, you will oversee seed processing, packing, storage operations, and all related tasks to meet export requirements. Reporting directly to the Agricultural Development Manager, with oversight from our client, you will collaborate closely with Agronomists and provide technical assistance to Producers. Your role will involve developing and executing harvest and post-harvest operation plans, aligning with crop placement strategies, and facilitating the export and importation of seeds. You will be accountable for executing activities, maintaining records, and working collaboratively with the Agricultural Development Manager, Agronomists, and Producers. This position entails a balanced workload, with 50% of the work performed in a standard office setting and the remaining 50% in plant and field operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support all phases of harvest and post-harvest operations for oleaginous seed production, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timely delivery to our facility.
  • Coordinate with Producers, Agronomists, and other stakeholders to develop and execute comprehensive harvest and post-harvest operation plans.
  • Oversee seed processing, packing, and storage operations to meet export requirements and ensure product integrity.
  • Conduct regular assessments of Producers’ inventories and provide necessary support to ensure adequate supply of materials and inputs.
  • Manage the smooth flow of products from Producers’ warehouses to our processing facilities, optimizing efficiency and minimizing delays.
  • Ensure that all processing steps, including drying, dehulling, sorting, coating, packing, and storage, meet specified standards and timelines.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance with quality requirements and documentation for export shipments.
  • Handle documentation and logistics for direct exports, maintaining accurate records and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for problem resolution, resource allocation, and communication with third-party partners.
  • Oversee import/export and logistics operations related to seed quality instruments and processing materials.
  • Stay informed about changes in regulations and legislation affecting seed exports and imports, and proactively address any potential impacts on our operations.
  • Develop and update standard procedures for post-harvest handling, seed processing, and export/import activities, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by formalizing processes, documenting outcomes, and implementing enhancements to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agro-business, agronomy sciences, or related field.
  • Must have at least 3-5 years of experience in the seed industry, with a focus on oleaginous seeds processing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of seeds logistics, customs, and distribution processes.
  • Familiarity with seeds logistics regulations and legislations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently as needed.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to lead improvement projects from start to finish.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be eligible to work in Rwanda
  • Must posses a valid driver’s license.
