CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER- MARINE

Purpose of the role:

The role is responsible for providing strategic direction for business management, strategy development/ execution, commercial, vessel operations, project management, finance, and service delivery capabilities to properly position the organization for future planning and expansion drive.

He/she drives the strategic business initiatives to achieve corporate objectives with an extreme focus on the financial, customer, internal processes, and organization capacity in accordance with the strategic direction and rolling plan.

Develops and drives business growth in accordance with the strategic direction and is ultimately responsible for revenue/income generation and delivery of all business mandates including the top and bottom line.

Roles & Responsibilities

Strategy formulation & implementation

  • Leads the translation of broad business guidelines from the GCOO and Board of Directors into specific operational plans and directs all business units in the execution of strategic projects, deliverables, and objectives as dictated by client needs and sector developments.
  • Develops, reviews, and implements operation’s strategy; ensuring that the strategic objectives are well understood and executed by each business lead.
  • Provides strategic direction for growth phases to achieve successful delivery of projects/strategic initiatives and exceed performance targets.

Management of overall Operations and Commercial functions including:

Operations/Project Management   

  • Responsible for leading all vessels management operations strategy/execution, identify process improvement opportunities and implementing best-in-class methods to increase uptime, availability, and utilization.
  • Leads execution of plans, policies, strategies, procedures, functions, and programs support to vessels (DSP/FSIV/Gangway) operations with emphasis on systems that address safety and statutory as well as regulatory compliance.
  • Lead contract deployment and implementation whilst ensuring compliance with specific contractual administration requirements to deliver operational excellence – maximum operational efficiency of the contracted vessel (uptime and utilization)
  • Lead the discussion on vessel modifications as required by contracts and any technical developments that will enhance the overall operational efficiency including relevant audits and following up on the observations close-out.
  • Lead discussion with strategic partners and ensure that significant maintenance/ dry dock periods are properly planned, controlled, and executed with minimal or no disruption to contract performance.
  • Make sure that the vessels follow all guidelines for operations with statutory and regulatory agencies and all other recommendations including relevant audits and following up on the observations close-out.
  • Develops and cascades long and short-term business goals, objectives and targets for all departments and provides required support for achievement of growth
  • Integrates commercial, operational and financial measures aimed at efficiency, growth and profitability in the long-term.
  • Oversees budgeting and champions business opportunities, capital investment initiatives, operational improvements and strategic alliances.
  • Directly responsible for market, competitor and industry analyses; benchmarking project proposals, ensuring that intrinsic business value is maximized for the company through maturation of various opportunities; developing and tracking management reporting systems, cost analysis and business planning.
  • Oversees the successfully management of corporate-wide projects to budget, quality and time limits

Customer Relationship Management   

  • Project viability assessment/business model development & validation for projects, including preparation of feasibility studies, business plan, and go-to-market strategy in order to position the business unit as #1 in the market.
  • Stakeholder assessment/management and project risk assessment/allocation of Value analysis/ financial analysis (including bottom-line defense)

Business Development

  • Manages existing and new commercial opportunities for the organization and forges alliances that will facilitate growth and business expansion requirements over time.
  • Performs comprehensive evaluation to determine market potential based on regulatory, financial, and go-to-market factors.
  • Creates the roadmap, garner executive support, and integrates new market initiatives into the company operating plan.
  • Performs regular market and business intelligence to identify opportunities for incremental revenue for the company with existing client base (B2C) and across the industry (B2B).

Business Intelligence   

  • Monitors corporate performance against key performance indicators and evaluates weekly/monthly reports on businesses performance in order to optimize opportunities, outputs and revenue.
  • Provides valuable analysis/insightful assessment of the business results and market dynamics; reviews value drivers and performance reports in relation to business plans/target.
  • Reviews quarterly Operations/business audits reports; drives the implementation of approved recommendations and evaluates its impact on operational efficiency.
  • Identifies changes and trends in the business environment that may potentially have an impact on current and future performance businesses.
  • Oversees the business’s performance reviews, analysis of reports to drive strategic planning, business process control and key actions to be implemented.

Financial Management

  • Coordinate financial structuring and restructuring – capital raising, deal origination, pre­ deal evaluation, due diligence (buy and sell-side), business valuation, deal structuring and divestment.
  • Liaises with external Financial Services organizations, as may be required, to ensure adequate funding in terms of Debt, Equity and Working Capital requirements.

People Management

  • Provides leadership, builds organizational capacity and creates an environment where people can realize their full potential and deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Creates a dynamic and “fit for purpose” organizational structure, develops and leads senior management team to deliver against key organizational goals, whilst embracing and driving continuous business improvements.

Governance

  • Ensures that an effective schedule/limit of authority exists to control costs, budgets, and capital expenditures.
  • Maintains system visibility to identify all principal risks and uncertainties relevant to the business.
  • Ensures continuous deployment and implementation of effective business risk management policies and practices including the provision of assurance to the Board and its committees as appropriate
  • Ensures that all operational activities are performed in compliance with Local, State, and Federal regulations and/or laws governing business operations.

Experience

  • Technical experience in Vessel Hull & Machinery; Vessel Operations; Maritime Regulations; Crew/Manning Procedures; Maritime Commercial Operations; HSEQ Processes and Vessel Finance & Purchasing
  • Consistent achievement in leadership of strategy, planning, implementation and control at Senior Executive level
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience with the last five years in a strategic management role in an offshore oil and gas project environment and/or offshore vessel operations experience.
  • Industry Regulatory & Legal Awareness: Full understanding and working knowledge of the key legal risk areas such as but not limited to Contractual Liability, Insurance requirements, defective performance and Warranty obligations and application of same in the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Commercial Awareness: Full understanding and working knowledge of all aspects of lump sum and reimbursable project related financial and contractual management clauses in areas such as but not limited to Application of Rates, Exclusivity, Confidentiality, Completion Notices, Payment Profiles & Cash-flow, Variation Control, Escalations, and Cancellation etc.
  • A track record of financial success and effective accountability in a complex and high-profile business context
  • Experience of successfully driving organisational change from inception through to conclusion
  • A track record of growing a strong corporate performance culture – establishing an innovative and effective performance and service quality evaluation.
  • Proven track record in maintaining a fit-for-purpose Corporate Governance Framework
  • Successful partnership, specifically the ability to effectively engage with and manage relationships with high-profile political and business parties
  • Experience in highly diversified organization and in a sector providing mass-market, high-profile service with National/ Continental coverage.

Education

  • A relevant postgraduate business qualification (MBA or equivalent tertiary qualification)
  • Possession of project Management certification (Prince 2, PMI etc)
  • Membership of recognised body (Business oriented))
