We’re proud to announce that WTS Energy UK has been awarded an A-rated Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence by the UK Home Office. This recognition allows us to sponsor non-UK professionals for work on UK-based projects. It helps our clients access top international talent quickly, compliantly, and without delays. Here’s what the licence means, and how it can directly benefit your business.

What is a Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence?
To legally employ non-UK nationals under most UK work visa routes, including the Skilled Worker route, companies must hold a Sponsor Licence issued by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). This applies to workers from outside the UK, including EU/EEA citizens who arrived after 31 December 2020.
A Sponsor Licence allows employers to assign Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS), which candidates need to apply for a visa. When granted, a licence is rated either A or B.
Why an A-rating matters
An A-rating is the highest endorsement a company can receive from the UK Home Office under the Skilled Worker sponsorship system. It confirms that the organisation is fully compliant with UKVI requirements. It can therefore assign Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) without additional monitoring or restrictions. In other words, an A-rated sponsor is trusted by UKVI to meet all legal, HR, and reporting obligations.
In contrast, a B-rating indicates that a company has fallen short of UKVI standards. This rating limits sponsorship activity and requires the organization to purchase and complete an official action plan before it can regain A status. Working with a B-rated sponsor can introduce risk and uncertainty to project timelines.
| Rating | When Assigned | What It Allows | Limitations |
| A-Rating | Given when UKVI is satisfied that the sponsor has strong systems and fully meets compliance requirements. | Full rights to sponsor new non-UK hires and manage existing sponsored workers. Licence is listed as A-rated on the public register. | Must maintain ongoing compliance. Subject to audits and spot checks. Risk of downgrade or licence removal if duties aren’t met. |
| B-Rating | Issued if UKVI identifies compliance concerns that don’t yet warrant suspension. | May continue sponsoring current workers (e.g. extensions), but cannot sponsor new hires. Must follow an official improvement plan. | Must pay for and complete a Home Office action plan. Sponsorship rights are limited until A-rating is restored. |
How this benefits our clients
For clients, this distinction matters. An A rating means WTS Energy UK operates with strong internal processes, accurate and timely reporting, and clean audit outcomes. All of these are essential when hiring international talent. It also means the sponsorship process runs smoothly, without added delays or corrective action plans.
By working with an A-rated sponsor like WTS Energy, clients benefit from:
- Quicker access to global talent
We can issue Certificates of Sponsorship without restrictions, helping you hire the right people faster, especially for niche or hard-to-fill roles.
- Fully compliant hiring
Our processes are audited and approved by the UK Home Office, ensuring all visa sponsorship is handled correctly and transparently.
- Project-ready workforce
Whether your project is nearshore or onshore in the UK, we can mobilize qualified professionals to meet your deadlines and scope.
- No delays in onboarding
We support urgent hiring needs by managing all sponsorship responsibilities in-house, so your project won’t be held back by immigration red tape.
Whether you’re dealing with labour shortages, tight timelines, or new project phases, our A-rated sponsor licence gives you the flexibility and peace of mind to move forward with confidence.
Common hiring challenges this solves
Hiring in the UK energy sector can be complex, particularly when specialist roles need to be filled fast or local talent is scarce. With our A-rated Skilled Worker Sponsor Licence, WTS Energy can support clients facing the following situations:
- You’ve won a UK-based project but need to bring in international talent quickly
Tight deadlines or project start dates don’t always allow time for lengthy recruitment processes. Our A-rating allows us to sponsor qualified non-UK workers without delay.
- You need to fill a highly specialised position and can’t find the right skills locally
For roles that require niche expertise, international candidates may be the only solution. We can legally and efficiently sponsor these hires for your UK operations.
- You don’t have your own sponsor licence, or don’t want the admin burden
Many companies lack the time or infrastructure to manage sponsorship themselves. We handle the full compliance process on your behalf.
- You’re scaling operations in the UK and need a reliable, compliant workforce partner
Whether for onshore or nearshore projects, our A-rated licence allows you to access and mobilise skilled professionals as needed, with full UKVI compliance.
