Job Description


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

     The operations geologist is supporting the drilling execution team in incident free and safe operations

     Operations geologist acts as company's operational subsurface representative and as interface between wellsite geologist, rig manager at site and exploration mananger and well engineering and facility lead as well as drilling superintendent in the CDMX HQ

     Carry out well planning, execution and post well reporting

     Preparation of well proposals in close cooperation with the exploration license management team as well as the drilling team

     Focus on specification of the geotechnical program, ie offset well analysis including identification of potential hazard zones, pore pressure prognosis, lithostratigraphic details on the prognosed depth profile of the wells to be drilled

     Monitor the relevant commitments wells during drilling operations & reporting of operations to the management (VP exploration, VP RDE, SVP global exploration and SVP MD BU Mexico)

     Manage and guide third party specialists (wellsite geologist, coring, LWD/WL crews) and ensure that these specialists are engaged, Monitoring remotely or onsite if required

     Contribute to cost effective drilling

     Ensure that all geological contractors (coring, wireline logging, etc.) are mobilised at the correct time

     Ensure fulfilment of proper daily, weekly and monthly reporting requirements

     Attend daily and weekly meeting to brief technical and managerial staff

     Able to work with a number of different functional disciplines in order to achieve program objectives

     Ensure adequate formation evaluation and as such advise wellsite geologist, the wireline logging operator and ensure 24/7 communication with the company's petrophysicist during certain milestone stages of the operation

     Compile all relevant information and finish the composite log

     Review operational procedures and programs

     Attend multidisciplinary pre-spud meetings to understand all operational, production, logging, and anti-collision requirements are understood and met and that there are no drilling surprises in the well delivery execution

     Support drilling execution team in reviewing that the wells are budgeted, planned & designed to applicable standards, regulatory requirements, policies and full consideration of Company Corporate HSE & Sustainability goals

     Support drilling team preparing of relevant data packages for statutory submissions to regulatory authorities in Mexico.

     Support on the generation of post drilling analysis and End of Well Reports (EOWR) to create a rig lesson learned data base

     Assist the Drilling Superintendent and the Wells Manager to maintain a high level of HSE awareness

     Attend bi-weekly (monthly) drilling HSE meetings with rig-based mentors and drilling contractor meetings to review operational, HSE, and corrective action requirements while building critical rapport amongst the drilling team

Requirements

-     Degree in Geology

-     Minimum 10 years active work experience in the gas & oil industry as professional Geologist with emphasis on hands-on experience in well planning and execution, experience in GoM operations would be desired

-     Thorough understanding of entire well maturation process from initial concept throughh planning and execution

-     Understanding of drilling practices and procedures as well as sound knowledge about current technology for mud logging, LWD/MWD and electrical wireline formation evaulation and pressure measurement

-     Strong interpersonal skills in order to act as liaison between Drilling, G&G and Petroleum Engineering

-     Fluent in English and Spanish (spoken & written)
