Planning Engineer (Shipbuilding)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Planning Engineer with a strong shipyard and shipbuilding background to support the planning, scheduling, monitoring, and control of major shipbuilding projects. The role will be responsible for developing project schedules, tracking progress, resource planning, and ensuring timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Create and manage Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), project baselines, and progress measurement systems.
  • Monitor engineering, procurement, fabrication, erection, outfitting, commissioning, and delivery milestones.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports, KPI reports, S-curves, manpower histograms, and schedule analysis.
  • Track project performance against planned schedules and identify delays, risks, and recovery actions.
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, procurement, and project management teams to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Monitor resource utilization, manpower requirements, and productivity trends.
  • Support project controls activities including forecasting, progress validation, and management reporting.
  • Participate in project review meetings and provide schedule-related recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 13 years of experience in shipyard and shipbuilding projects.
  • Proven experience in planning and scheduling for newbuild vessels, offshore vessels, or marine construction projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and MS Project.
  • Experience with project reporting, progress monitoring, and resource planning.
  • Sound understanding of shipbuilding processes, fabrication, block construction, outfitting, commissioning, and vessel delivery.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Preferred

  • Experience working in large-scale shipyards or EPC marine projects.
  • Knowledge of project controls, earned value management (EVM), and KPI reporting.
  • Previous Middle East shipyard experience is an advantage.
