Background:
As the global renewable energy sector grows, so does the need for skilled, safety-conscious technicians. In May–June 2025, WTS Energy partnered with a leading national power generation company in East Africa to deliver Global Wind Organization (GWO) Recertification Training for its wind energy personnel.
This training was part of a broader effort to improve workforce readiness, boost on-site safety, and meet international wind energy standards. Consequently, a total of 20 employees took part in the training.
Challenge of the company:
The client required a trusted training partner to deliver Basic Safety Training (BST) and Advanced Rescue Training (ART) for their technical staff operating at a wind farm. Notably, the training had to meet GWO compliance standards and ensure trainees were eligible for WINDA certification, while balancing theoretical content with realistic, hands-on experience.
Also, given the remote location and technical nature of the sessions, the provider needed to manage logistics, equipment, and experienced trainers, all while keeping in line with strict Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) protocols throughout the program.
Our Solution:
WTS Energy, in collaboration with AID Renewables, successfully delivered a complete GWO Recertification program tailored to the client’s needs. As such, the training was conducted in two parts:
- Theoretical sessions held offsite at certified venues
- Practical sessions conducted at the client’s wind farm, including real-world simulations of rescue and safety procedures
WTS Energy also handled all logistical and operational elements, from securing venues and training materials to mobilizing certified instructors. Furthermore, a strong emphasis was placed on strict HSE compliance, which was noted and appreciated by participants.
As a result, all trainees were registered and certified through the WINDA portal. And, the training was conducted in full alignment with GWO standards.
Outcomes
- Delivered full GWO Recertification (BST & ART) for 20 participants
- All trainees received WINDA certification and registration
- Strong feedback from safety officers and trainees for the realism and practicality of the rescue simulations
- High appreciation for WTS Energy’s flexibility, professionalism, and technical delivery
