Day Job - Days - 7 to 4 (core hours)
THE MACHINIST IS MANUAL MACHINING ONLY (LATHE, VTL, MILLING,DRILLING/TAPPING). ALL MACHINES ARE THE OLD MANUAL TYPE - THIS POSITION REQUIRES A TRUE MACHINISTS - NOT A CNC MACHINE OPERATOR!

THIS WILL NOT BE 100% MACHINING - OTHER SHOP DUTIES WILL BE ASSIGNED (TRAINING PROVIDED WHERE NECESSARY)


Summary: Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic
parts by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances
of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent
machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on lathe machines,
grinders, and shapers.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut,
or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine
controls as required.
Performs general machining, OD / ID turning, and boring with minor thread work.
Verifies dimensions and conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure
functionality and performance.
Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic ERP business systems or related software.
Some knowledge of MicroSoft Office software (Word and Excel) would be helpful.
Other Skills and Abilities
Must be certified/certifiable to operate a forklift.

occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 
High school diploma or GED and Two to four years related experience and/or training.
